2004 CHICAGO
CAST
The production concept of 'CHICAGO' is that of a musical presented in the style of a vaudeville show. The show's creator - the legendary Bob Fosse - wanted to pay tribute to the type of entertainment so poular in America during the first decades of the last century.
Set in the city of Chicago during the late 1920's the off beat story tells of a married chorus girl Roxie Hart who murders a faithless lover and is jailed. On "Death Row" Roxie meets Velma Kelly and the two become rivals for news headlines. Both women hope with the help of a shifty lawyer, Billy Flynn, they will be acquitted and the publicity surrounding their trials will lead to fame on the vaudeville stage. This sharp-edged tale of murder, greed, corruption, and exploitation is sweetened by a musical score, sprinkled with the syncopated rhythms of the roaring twenties.
